A message from Sheila
If you are getting ready for the death and funeral
of someone you care about or perhaps preparing for your own death
my heart goes out to you now.
Hello,
my name is Sheila Martin. I'm a wife, step mom, and grandma, living in
Vancouver, Canada. Just like you, I've had to handle the responsibilities
of arranging a funeral service for a family member.
The deaths that have affected me most were for my 93-year-old grandmother,
Jenny ... my sister, Toni,
who died of a brain tumor ... Noah,
dead at 14 of a gunshot wound ... Paul,
a dear friend, who died of leukemia ... Bob,
a favorite cousin, who inexplicably took his own life ... and
most recently, the death of my father, Duncan.
Most people don't know what to do, and just as unsettling
they don't know how to behave in the face of death.
When death comes, you as a survivor must not only cope with your grief,
but at the same time organize a major life event.
Funerals carry great significance for us -- not just emotional, but social
and financial as well.
What do you do first? And then what? How do you cope with the urgent
decisions and details to be handled now and in the days and weeks ahead?
FuneralsWithLove.com is meant to
be a down-to-earth guide for survivors who are responsible for handling
the practical, legal and financial decisions that accompany a death in
the family.
I hope that you will be able to use this website as a roadmap out of
the chaos....
About Sheila Martin
Award-winning writer Sheila Martin lives with her husband, Bob, and cats
Boomer and Bambi, next to the Fraser River, in Surrey, British Columbia.
She holds an honors degree in sociology from Simon Fraser University,
in British Columbia.
In 1986, Sheila and her sister, Toni Alain, coauthored and self-published
a cookbook called Food from the Heart.
The company they formed to publish that first book was called Sea
Breeze Press.
Several years later, as Sheila was completing work on a book to help
survivors of a death in the family, her sister Toni was diagnosed with
brain cancer.
Toni lived to help celebrate the publication of that book, The
Survivor's Guide, which became an instant best-seller.
In the years since, Sheila has continued to expand Sea Breeze Press,
and has now converted the business into an online publishing company,
Sea Breeze Digital Publishing Inc.
The companion websites to this one
are EulogyHelpDesk,
which offers help in preparing "A Eulogy to Remember"
... and Saying Goodbye With
Love, where you can find a step-by-step guide through the details of
death.
Among many other sites Sheila has built, her most
popular is Happy Hysterectomy
where you can find the eBook, The Worried Woman's
Guide to a Happy Hysterectomy.
Her husband, Bob, has also caught the website-building bug and
has launched a number of sites providing information on
consumer products.
Together the couple now own more than 40 websites.
